Questions about withdrawal
Hi,
I'm new to this board looking for answers for my sister. She is an alcoholic and last night called me asking for help. This is a huge step for her because she has never admitted that she has a problem.
So she was looking on line and is now really upset about what can happen during withdrawal. She said she read that there is a possibility of death so she is really freaked out.
Here's her story...
Has to drink in the morning to get rid of the shakes. She's a bartender and sneaks a drink in the afternoon to get rid of the shakes and then drinks 4-6 drinks after work.
She has no insurance to cover the cost of a rehab center and doesnt know how to quit drinking without serious withdrawal symptoms.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

It might be a good idea for you to suggest that your sister take a look at this site, as we have lots of information and support here.
It's always a good idea to talk to your dr before you begin to detox from alcohol because it can be dangerous.

If your sister's got really bad shakes, she may very well need medical attention! I know it's a big step outta anonymity but the rewards are medication that will make it easier for her. Hope she makes it just fine!

Hi and Welcome!..
As she is now "maintance drinking"..
Yes...she does need a medically supervised de tox
that does not necessarily mean a rehab.
There are short term meds to ease de toxing.
The Salvation Army has an excellent free program,
if the doctor recommends it.
We also have a sticky at the top here
"Quitting..what to expect" with our personal
experiences.
Take care...
