High Bottom?
I read this term in another post, referring to a type of alcoholic. I think I know what it means, however I'm not sure. Usually when I think I know something, I'm wrong.... or not completely right, so I though I'd ask.
Hey Doodlebug,
I believe it means a person who found recovery before they lost everything and ended up fitting the mental picture that everybody who doesn't know better has of "an alcoholic".

That's me!
I'm a self-described "high bottom" drunk.
I've never had any trouble with the law, never been arrested (even though I've driven drunk countless times, just never got caught). I've never had any trouble at work. My wife is still with me, never left even temporarily. Still have my house, etc.
Even with all of the above, I hit bottom and sought treatment. My "bottom" had more to do with "self" than my life around me, if that makes any sense.
What I lost through my alcoholism wasn't tangible. That makes me a "high bottom."

Thank you. That's what I thought it was. Ok... I'm a High Bottom also.
Never missed a day of work due to drinking.
Never lost anything tangible.... I lost a lot of intangible things due to my drinking though... family and friends. I was a mean one.

Congratulations for getting it before it was to late. I have to commend those who figured it out before they had to lose so much. Some have to learn the hard way. The important thing is that we just stop. Live and learn.
