Hi, I'm on day 14 in my recovery and got a protein bar after working out at the gym this morning. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. Anyway, I got a protein bar that said "low sugar" (because I've been eating so much sugar lately!) When I read the label, it has sugar alcohols in it. I know people on the Atkins diet can have sugar alcohols and not sugar, or something like that, and I looked it up online and it says they named it "sugar alcohol" because of the formula, however it does not contain ethanol which is the alcohol found in beverages.

But I was told to be careful of what I ingest so I wanted to check with others to see if eating my protein bar is fine, which I hope it is! Someone please let me know!!

Congrats on the 14 days Judy.

Being vigilant of foods that contain alcohol is a good plan and if you are not comfortable with the sugar alcohol ingredient in your protein bar you should try another type. Personally I have had a few of them myself at the gym and I am still here lol.

Sugar alcohols are used in sweetners (sugar substitutes). I don't think they contain alcohol as we think of it.

I am 52 days sober today and I have things with sugar alcohol in them all the time. It doesn't trigger me in any way at all. Phone calls with my Mom... how that's another story!
