Hi....I was again doing NY Times Crosswords at 6 weeks sober. Shortly after that my reading comprehension returned.
My depression left by 3 months.
Everyone has their own time line for healing.
Stay sober and relax.

Morning....
At one point, before my drinking and using was a constant thing, I read an average of five books a week...and they weren't Harlequin romances. I got sober, and I couldn't read a paragraph without going over it again and again. Nothing would stick, and to read aloud was torture.
It took me longer than Carol. Six months or so to read with ease, maybe a little longer for comprehension to come back. It continued to improve for the first full two years. I'm now writing critical papers on some pretty complicated works (I'm in school...English major...would have laughed if you told me when I was a few months sober that I'd be caple of that).
Hang in there. Things continue getting better in this respect for awhile.
Peace & Love,
Sugah

It's a process, reading and writing helped a lot.
By being to recognize that you can't focus is growth in it self.
But there's other lessons or growth within it.
You learned to be more patient, gental or less critical to yourself.
You're learnding acceptance.
You're learnding grace.
You're learnding about your feelings
You're learnding to reach out for help.
You're learnding to just BE.
You're also learnding not to be in your head and go to your heart.
The fog are being lifted. It's just not what you thought it was
or your old ways of thinking. You know keep an OPENMIND.
