Question withdrawal headaches?

Has anyone ever heard of withdrawal headaches happening when someone quits drinking? I've not had any alcohol for 17 days now, but have had a nagging headache for the past 4. (I've heard that this happens when a person quits caffeine!) I've been drinking loads of juice and herbal tea to kind of "detox" my system (and of course the usual 3 cups of coffee each day, not to mention extra chocolate and ice cream since quitting!).

I've skimmed through the "what to expect" sticky, but haven't seen anything about headaches there--(I probably just missed it, though)

Thanks!
Janey

I haven't heard anything in particular about it but have expereinced quite a few 'day long' headaches that won't go away with tylenol since I quit. Last one was yesterday on day 53. It doesn't happen every day though....

Cool withdrawal headaches

HEADACHES IS A HARD ONE
could be anything
but
dosing up on caffiene, sugar,(chocolate, ice cream, juice)
doesn't help
the only way to detox is to detox
no two ways about it

it's hard
but i've don e it more than once

wake up early
exercise, join a gym
go to AA
two small meals a day
plus good dinner
my favorite was broccoli
(i even quit meat for a few years once)
go to AA
get a sponsor
3 grapefruits, bannanas a day
apples, oranges, pears, etc
walk to meetings a mile or less
cut back on tv
go to AA
make a few phone calls
a cup of tea before bed
go to sleep by 10pm, 11pm
wake up early
do it again

Thanks!

Oh my. I just can't imagine a morning without coffee--isn't coffee one of the four food groups?

But the chocolate has gotten a bit out of hand, I must admit. Well anyway, it's nice knowing the headache is not from a hangover.

You are right, though--integrating more healthy eating/lifestyle habits can only help.

Thumbs up

I had headaches and felt dizzy on and off for a few months. I did quit coffee though so that may have contributed to the headaches? I just couldn't take the anxiety the coffee gave me in early recovery. Advil works really well for headaches.

Congrats on your decision to change your life! Woo Hoo on your almost 3 weeks!!!

I also suggest you have an eye exam.

In fact...a complete physical is wise.

I neglected all medical matters while being a drunk.
How about you?

Blessings...

Thanks for your replies!

I'm due for a yearly check-up at the doc's, so that's coming up within the month. As a (former ) drinker, I've tried to compensate for what I knew I was doing to my liver, brain, etc. by maintaining a fairly decent diet and supplementing with vitamins & certain herbs.

As I think about it now, this recent headlong dive into chocolate could certainly contribute to headaches! Time to cut back, and cultivate a love for.....broccoli??

Good luck! I'm with you... if only I could replace my bad habits with healthy ones like broccoli! (And, yes, coffee is a food group.)

Congrats on your sobriety.

Hugs,

phinny
