Yes,,,we have done this before....but as we have a lot of new comers...
Drining and Drugging Movies
'Days of Wine and Roses' Kee Remick and Jack Lemmon
'My Name Is Bill W.' James Woods and James Gardner.
It was a Hallmark feature.
'Leaving Los Vegas' Nick Cage
'Barfly' Mickey O'Rouke and Fay Dunaway.
'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolfe?' Richard Burtom Elizabeth Taylor. Orginally a play.
'Lomg Days Journey Into Night' Jason Robards did one version. It's a Eugene O'Neill play orginally.
'Panic In Needle Park' Al Pacino....driggie tale.
Taken from a true story.
Those are my Oscar picks....

bob, great film. I did some reading on making of. Sheen was actually getting blottoed during film -- plus whatever drugs were on set. Coppola was just talking to him all night while filming, getting more and more inside his head and generally f'ing with the guy until he got the take he wanted. Pretty sadistic film making. Sheen later had a heart attack while filming causing some delay...

"Bad Santa" - Maybe not one to scare you straight but it was very funny
I'm looking for a drinking-druggin movie that really makes you want to stay away from alcohol, kinda like Leaving Las Vegas, but even stronger. One that actual alcoholics can identify with.

The Upside of Anger... w/ Kevin Costner
I found this film to be an affirmation about the power of anger and resentments.
In my own recovery those two elements have driven me to the bottle in times of weak spirituality.
It made me grateful that I found tools in AA to help me get past these difficult emotions and to stay away from poison... but it takes effort on my behalf.

Hands down.
Chrystal
During a high-speed drunken chase, Joe (Billy Bob Thornton) wrecks his car, in the process killing his young son and crippling his wife, Chrystal (Lisa Blount). After a 16-year stretch in prison, Joe returns to his hometown in the Ozark Mountains with one goal: to make amends with Chrystal, who still suffers intense physical and psychological pain. Harry Dean Stanton co-stars.
