How long can I expect to have this horrible craving for sweets?
I have never in my life been a big fan of chocolate, or cake, or ice cream, or pie, etc, etc. But since I quit drinking I've had some of the above mentioned items every single evening. It's like my replacement for alcohol. It's not making me gain weight, in fact I've lost a little weight in my 37 days sober. I guess not drinking 8 or more beers every evening has a little something to do with that.
Anyway, if anyone can tell me this will go away that would be very encouraging. lol

Off and on for 10 years. My youngest son was born 25 months ago and I did stay sober through my pregnancy and until he was about 2 months old, but have been drinking daily again up until 38 days ago.
It seems that this last time around my body and mostly my brain was just not able to handle the huge amounts of alcohol I was consuming. I felt like **** to be blunt. I felt like my brain was shutting down. So being sober is most definately something of a shock to my poor self. lol

I do relate ....my mental state is what drove me into AA recovery.
Ny reading comprehension was gone...I could not shop w/o a list..had to stop doing crosswords...decisions were difficult.. Dpressiom was a daily fact. My brain was saturated.
These symptoms of alcoholism fled about my 3rd sober month.
And I was following the diet planam/vitamin use recommended in 'Under The Influence'.
Years ago am addiction doctor tolf me...
'for every month you drank alcoholically it takes 2 months sober to repair the damage'.
From my personal observation and experience I agree.

The first few months of soberness, I could not put down the sweets!! Chocolate especially. Never in my life have I craved chocolate, but once there was no more booze, those cravings kicked in. I allowed it for the first month to go crazy, but after that I weaned myself off it. I was just eating TOO much of the stuff.
I still eat chocolate, just not in the compulsive way I was during month one of being sober.
So many changes in your body when you get sober, for me, everything went haywire for awhile...eating, feelings, sleeping...it all felt confused and crazy. It gets better once your body realizes that the alcohol punishment is really over and starts getting itself "rewired".
It's an amazing thing to feel and watch your body get sober.
