Day 6 for me

I am feeling so good about myself. I usually get cravings in the evening and when I do, I pick up one of the 4 books that I bought on alcoholism. They help keep my resolve strong. And I check out these forums throughout the day.

Alcoholism is definitely progressive. I started out having a glass of wine maybe once/week. Then it went to one/night, then 2/night and I was on three/night when I decided 6 days ago that this was enough. Instead of having a hobby or learning a martial art or a new language, I was sitting on my butt each night drinking wine. Not anymore!

I also took inventory and realized that the other couples we do things with are heavy drinkers. It's weird how drinkers gravitate toward each other.

Thanks for your support!

Good for you!

Yes....when I was a drinker...so were all my friends.
Now that I am sober...so are all my friends!

I noticed the drinkers faded away.
We had nothing in commom any longer.

I found my sober social circle in AA.

Blessings...

I have a number i've found amazing, you can get all on amazon:

big book
a womans way through the 12 steps plus workbook
dry augusten burroughs
million little pieces james frey - when he talks about vomiting up bits of his stomach jeez...it's waiting for us all if we don't do something...and when his parents picked him up with his teeth missing, cheek missing etc and he said listen i need 2 bottlles of wine..lwhich he did, but it reminded me of me after binges, jut one bottle of wine, my sister coming out of rehab convincing my mom the therapist said i could have just ONE bottle of wine..which she did

the good strain through all of this...at least we know what we are...alcoholics...ever upward yes from ther~e??

Hi Cathy,

I loved Dry, too. What a great book and they are making a movie of Running With Scissors - the first book before Dry.

The other books are

Cool, Hip, & Sober - 88 ways to beat booze and drugs. It's an easy read from a guy who was drunk for 20 years and now sober for the same length.

Understanding the Alcoholics Mind - the Nature of Craving and how to Control it. A more formal read but it looks good.

Finally, Women & Alcohol - A private pleasure or a public problem. This one is more of a sociological look at the problem. It is also a good read.

Nothing beats Dry, though. It will be hard to top that one.
