One of my big fears about quitting was that "Life would be boring without alcohol"

And there were many times during those crucial first weeks when I thought my fear was being realized. I had so much time on my hands now that I had given up the booze that at first I had difficulty finding stuff to do to keep me busy.

Boredom is the product of a lazy mind.

I knew I had to do something to keep busy or I exposed myself too much to the risk of temptation.

I got busy reading (Recovery related material)
I went to AA meetings and got busy doing service work.
I did repairs around the house.
I put in extra time at work.
I started learning about computers and started saving to buy one.
I took over the cooking in the house.
And I discovered this ingenious invention called the tv remote heh...heh...

I had absolutely no interest in television when I was drinking and I was amazed to find out that HBO was actually a specialized movie channel and not a boxing title.

I learned tons of stuff watching Discovery, History, National Geographic, TWC,Wisdom,
Fit TV, TLC and Nick at Nite.....I nearly developed another addiction with the damn remote....

.....the point is GET BUSY and stay busy.....

I have learned to love being bored and boring!!! It is so much better than the chaos I used to have in my life. And now when I do have fun, it is REAL fun, not some illusion brought on by mood-altering substances. I enjoy spending a quiet evening at home with a good book, movie, or just my computer and SR. I does take a while to get used to, though. Hang in there, all you bored folks. It gets better!

Hugs--

Boy do I understand that. When I first got sober I thought I'd go mad or end up drinking because of the boredom, I didn't know how to function sober. I hadn't a clue what to do with that old drinking time. Day by day, month by month it got easier to figure out, find things to do, and now if I can stop after a 14 hour day it's been a good day. Your right where your supposed to be. *hugs*
