Hi - I'm new here
Hi there, I'm Charlene a new member to SR. Today is the first day of the rest of my life!
I am the number 4 child out of 7 of an alcoholic mother who died when I was 16 at the early age of 50. We grew up very poor, abused and neglected. Married four months after my mother's death for 18 years to a man who introduced me to a wide variety of drugs, but I had a taste for alcohol.
I spent many years sober as my three children were growing up, went to church 3x a week yet all the while struggling to keep my family together. To no avail I divorced in 1994 and proceeded to fall back into the alcohol, slowly but surely.
Today I am a grandmother of 3 and the mother of two recovering daughters. Their choice of drug was Meth, which was introduced to them by their father. What a nightmare! My son abhores drugs as he has seen what it has done to his father and his sisters. He's 22 yrs old and is in the National Guard, stationed in Kosovo.
I have know for a time that I am a binge drinker. I hope that being a member of SR will help me to overcome this addiction and I hope that I can help other members to stay sober from what ever addiction it is that they are dealing with. Thank you for your time.

hi
and Welcome!
I found a great bunch of alcoholics in the T.I.E. Club near downtown Vegas.
They have a lot of meetings...please go and check them out.
Meetings are vital to my continuing sobriety.
Keep in touch here...Blessings.

Charlene,
Welcome to SR, this is a fantastic site with such a variety of people who have so much experience to share. It never fails to amaze me that so much positive goodness exists in what I often see as a bad old world.
I hope that your sobriety is reinforced by the resources available here and I look forward to reading your posts in the future.
With very best wishes

Michael,
This site has already provided such wonderful support. Enough so that today for the first time I actually told a friend of mine that I would not be able to go out for a "couple of drinks" tonight because I like to drink too much. Doing that somehow made me feel very strong inside. Thank you.

Welcome Charlene.
My name is Tanya. I am a recovering binge drinker/pain pill addict. I have found a new life..thanks to AA. It is unbelievable! The thought of drinking rarely crosses my mind...much less binging!
Keep Reaching Out!!!

Welcome Charlene!
Stick around - lots of nice and caring people here.
AA helped me a lot, being around other sober people that can relate to being a drunk helped me realize that I was not alone and I did not have to try and do this alone.
One day at a time OK?

Charlene, I want to thank you. I am thankful you have allowed this country the use of your son. With him in a far away land it must be stressful on you. I want you to know that there are people who feel indebted to you and your son.
I hope you find peace and hope. I also hope you can fulfill your quest in becoming free of Alcohol.

Welcome Charlene!
My entire family was consumed by crank... both parents, two sisters and a brother! My Mom died blasted out of her gourd and my dad followed her 4 years later. One sister died of hep B&C because she couldn't stop. My other sister, my brother and myself are all in recovery now and our lives are all so very very good. I first started using speed when I was 16 and I'm 55 now and clean from it for over 4 years. I haven't had a drink in a little over 3 years... So you see it's never too late to have an excellent life!
Being clean and sober gets to be a habit too... so I sincerely hope you can binge on life for awhile!!!
Life rocks!!
hugs,
Michele

Hi Charlene, welcome to this cool place. I think I found this site back in February of this year and actually straightened up for about two weeks, but what can I say? I'm weak. I have struggled with my alcoholism for approximately 20 years, and actually 2 days ago came off of a 7 day binge. So today, here I am, gathering strength from all of these awesome, caring people, with hope that I can stay here and away from my demon. Good luck to you Charlene, don't go to far away, this place is really good for your soul.
