something different seems to help

I rode my bicycle to work today - god almost killed myself. It felt great, though! I purposely left my bike lock at home so I wouldn't meander somewhere and lock it up for a good few hours. It is amazing how something as little as riding your bike to work seems to give you that extra perk in your day. It is something that seems to make me feel happier.

Just thought I would share.

Welcome to SR, vegastarless!! And thanks for sharing that!! I'm a firm believer in the mental health benefits of exercise, especially outdoors. Fresh air, sunshine, and activity make a huge difference in my state of mind.

Love and hugs,
Eddie

I can't tell you the amount of times I have found myself in my old bar downstairs in a basement like I was in some dungeon on a gorgeous day.
Me and my bar fly friends would smoke a pack of cigarettes, down 12 or more beers and watch Comedy central. ON GORGEOUS DAYS!

What was I thinking?

Endorphins are the body's natural internal painkillers and all-around feel-good chemicals. Exercise stimulates their production.

Since I moved in to my new place, I've noticed an older gentleman who would get on his bike and ride around the neighborhood. Not like Lance Armstong, helmet, jersy, titanium, clip shoes kind of riding, but old bike like the one my Dad pulled from the dump and just good for piddling.

I kept thinking, that looks sooo cool. Just like when I was a kid.

So I treated myself to a new bike (a Townie) with the money I've been saving from not drinking. And I've been piddling around the neighborhood myself. Some times another person or two ends up out there with me and we kinda fish-school around like when I was a kid.

I love it! No pressure, just freedom and a minor wind in my face.

Please, I hope you are all wearing helmets when you ride!! I lost a dear friend because he wasn't.
