One more answer ...what is keeping him from taking a sip? Well, once he got a few weeks away from alcohol and his brain began working again, everything looked different to him. The hopeless began to fade as he began to accomplish more. (first month he was on antabuse to keep him from drinking...he did drink one night...puked..and then drank more)
Each day we get closer to our goals and he knows that drinking changes everything. Not only does it mess up that day and the day after, but it messed up your MIND. Makes him feel like we CAN'T make it. Takes away all of the positive energy and motivation. I think he is afraid to risk that. PLUS...he keeps himself SO busy that he can't sacrifice even ONE day to drinking....and then there's the next day. We are holding on to a thin safety line and one night of drinking could break it. *HUGS*

hold on tight to that safety line, don't let go. my uncle is going through some problems right now. his mother, my grandmother has cancer. it's looking bleak for her. he used to be sober, but now he's not and it sucks for everybody. i can't imagine what it would be like to have to deal with him on a daily basis like he does, or you do. deal with alcoholism, i mean. tell me, did you ever have an addiction problem? i guess being so intimately involved with one counts anyways.
on a lighter note, while I was on vacation, I hardly drank at all. i stayed so in control. and you know what? i still had a lot of fun. we swam and ate tons of barbecue and laid in the sun. it was really nice to not be puking and getting carried everywhere. and remembering that we swam and ate barbecue and laid in the sun.
I also made plans to hang out with this guy at the zoo. sounds wholesome no? i'm pleased. talk to you later!

GOOD FOR YOU !! It is better to remember the fun. I am terribly addicted to cigs and they will kill me slowly...so I do understand that side of it. I drank with my A almost daily for awhile (when I thought we were just partying) and had no prob letting go of that tho.
