blacked-out to "the kids"...
I am not alone here.Forgetting,or blind-sided by alcohol, why do some of "us" parents let good times, limited good times,go right past us.Do we choose to be bad parents? nope!! Awwww, yes we do,we choose alcohol over our "better" interests. What happens later in their lives from us being so selfish? Only time will tell, maybe stronger, maybe we are breeding future alcohol abusers, time WILL tell.Don,not to single you out here, but you have always said what a difference YOUR sobriety has made for your kids.Gimme something to help me gulp down sobriety.

Patrick, please understand, I haven't an axe to grind - neither of my parents were alcoholics. Most of the information you need is on these forums - you just might need pointing in the right direction.

Well...
of my 3 adult children....the only 1 that saw me drinking ..is a non drinker!!
Ny brother and I were brought up with non drinking parents...we are alcoholics!!
Being a sober parent is a wonderful gift only you can give.

I had/ have many regrets when it comes to my children. At least I'm living by example now, and it's a joy like no other to watch them grow, experiance, go to school, have puppy love. My daughter who is now 23 lived the brunt of it I only got sober when she was 21, she's squirlly just because she is not because of me. My son is an A student, top of his class, very involved in school. My kids are okay because of one reason, because no matter how drunk I was, how stupid I got, how angry I became they never went without knowing I truly loved them.
I get to love them sober now, it's very cool!
