An unnessasary Evil
An unnessasary Evil
Over 60 years of consuming alcohol in many degrees and situations has slowly taught me many things.
I learn't of it's many carcinogens and mega killer joules, not good if you are concerned with cancer and weight issues.T
Then of course was the risk of wet brain, delerium tremens and other nasties.
I had a convulsion in my thirties, along with spinning room syndromes and many falls.
I consider too my time in de-tox to reflect on family violence, road rage drunk driving etc.
As for decent friends the barflies and boofheads were really frenemies.
Fortunately I managed to stay out of jail, despite my beer card and subsidised bar food.
How I have survived to 80 years is hard to understand
Alcohol also taught me not to touch it and i foolishly failed that lesson.
Still, I have over three months sober up, and chasing my PB of 15 months.
Too any young person reading this, the drinking game pretends of pleasure, but deals in misery.

Thanks for your kind words Zencat.
In some cases addictive behavior can follow weird upbringings.
Seeking quick fixes, be they drugs or whatever (I was 30 years on benzos)
clearly exacerbate inner conflicts.
That said i contine to work on 'the unproductive" and making gains.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Hi Bub - I'm so glad for your 3 mos. So very true - all those awful things it's done to us - and still we pretend it's a friend. I actually thought of it as a comforter & something to calm my anxiety - but it ended up making everything worse. Grateful we know that now.
