I can't remember where it was, but somewhere in Canada (I think), it was legislated that all new builds must have A/C.

Mrs D. was telling me about an article she read where they were saying that London's recent heat wave was exacerbated due to the lack of trees.

If you look over Winnipeg from a tall building, you would see nearly all trees. On top of that, the city is aggressively planting new trees.

On the Bus!

Off to see an interactive Van Gogh exhibit this afternoon.

That's far to warm to be shoveling snow. Best to wait until it cools down a bit more.

Dragon enjoy the exhibition, it looks fabulous. Kinda reminds me of PJ’s paintings.

No A/C I can vividly recall the days of my youth with no A/C and dreadful hot, humid, stuffy conditions, especially at night while trying to sleep.

I feel for anyone going through those conditions without A/C.

I was thinking of all of our UK’ers last week while their area was enduring those unprecedented temperatures.

Dragon, an interactive Van Gogh exhibit is going on about 30 miles from us. It has received rave reviews - enjoy!!! (Love the Winnipeg view with all those trees).

On the Bus.

On!

London has a fair amount of trees, I think it is just so large it acts as a heat sink. When the underground was first built it was cool in the summer as the surrounding clay had a lower temperature but by the 1950s it had absorbed as much as it could. It is only this century that Aircon has been desirable.

Sao ~ I have a question, and you are absolutely the man to ask!

Where I live, German Village, Columbus, OH, is all brick; there are brick roads and footpaths. And there are a lot of trees.

My question is regarding the humidity. It is INSANELY high here, usually in the 90s for a lot of the day, and I don't know why. I thought it was the bricks holding moisture, but perhaps it is the trees that cause the issue?

On the bus with ice cream in hand. Middle of winter but the sun is shining and it's about 60F. I've been spending a bit of time on facebook groups for women trying to get clean and sober. Hundreds of posts a day by women who are struggling to stop, to stay stopped and so forth. I just post encouragement and my own experience. Addiction is a hard beast to kick.

On the Soberbus

Leigh, Aircon never seemed worth it in our homes here in UK because it usually only being extreme heat a few days a year. But we’re seriously thinking of getting it when we eventually move homes.

Suze, humidity is stifling when it occurs. A trigger for the asthma too. Take care.

What a great shot of Winnipeg Dragon! I had no idea it was so green!

Leigh, I remember my youth also with no AC and just lying in bed sweating, praying for a breeze to come through my windows.

On the bus, coffee in hand.

Happy riding all!

Hi Venus, here's my two cents advice on this...
I've checked the map for German Village in Columbus and I believe this moisture is from the Scioto River that runs not very far from you.
We have the same humidity in Montreal from being an island on the St-Lawrence river.
Maybe Sao will have a better answer to shed light on this problem.

Count me in for a ride on the Sober Bus today ☼

Yeah, I don't think weather/humidity is that tied to small geographic areas like next to a river or there being a lot of trees. I lived in Pittsburgh, PA., Indianapolis, IN., Dayton OH., Northeast GA., and all over Florida and it's just humid in that region of the country in the U.S. It's a planet thing/weather patterns, IMO, not a river or building materials.

West of the Continental Divide in North America changes all that. Humidity is markedly lower in the West.

On the bus.

Get well soon Least.

I wanted to post a picture of my tree lined street, but google took the pictures in early spring so no leaves yet. You'll have to use your imagination. Half those trees were replaced this year. I'll need to take my own photo.

On the bus!
(Happy Friday).

Thank you so much dear CK and Caramel.

The thing is, Wiki is wrong. The humidity is way higher here than it used to be, and way higher than 72% average. 90s every day. Always unbearable in the mornings and evenings.

Mags, my doctor told me years ago that humidity was good for asthma, and my asthma has actually disappeared now.
