Need info
Hi - Just got out of Detox and need alternatives to AA. I just can't get beyond thier "god" & Higher prower thing. Looked into Rational Recovery but I'm still not sure about that either. Anybody got Info Please send it to me, I'm in the San Diego Cali area.
hi Frankie
I just found a website called www.unhooked.com You might want to have a look at that as well as Smart Recovery. I have the same problem as you but I live in a small place, so for face to face meetings AA is the only game in town. I happen to know that some people in AA are agnostics and even athiests, but they keep it to themselves and take what they want from the meetings. All the best ...Bird
Hi and welcome!
Check out our Links and Resources forum for 12 step alternatives. If I didn't have AA my first choice would be SMART. Look for Don S, he can give you more info. The link Anna gave is a good start as well.

HI Frankie:
Welcome to Sober Recovery. You will find great support here.
You might want to give AA another try and when they mention the word "God" just think of it as an abbreviation for Good Orderly Direction. G.O.D.
And then listen to the people and listen for those with similiar experiences, don't look for the differences.
Whether you work the program or not, especially at first, AA is a good safe place to make "new" "sober and clean" friends, who are trying to change their lives around by changing themselves.
As has been said already, AA has a lot of agnostic and atheist members, and then there are those of us who have a "great spirit" and some who use "Mother Nature."
Give it a try, and check out the other recovery programs also.
If nothing else, AA will give you a fellowship of sober and clean people where you just might find some friends that think the way you do and like the things you like.
Love and (((((to all))))),

try everything
I think Laurie pretty much said it all...whatever keeps you sober- try everything! I do enjoy AA meetings...for the coffee, the company and the cookies...I just feel better after a meeting, and stronger. The HP thing does my head in, but sharing is like free therapy, I do believe it's a good thing. Bird
