Day 8
It's day 8 I'm still in a lot of pain as I hurt all over. I done every from chiropractor to physically therapy ect but still have pain..My job is a major source of pain. I'm not in a place mentally to switch jobs. I'm still not sleeping well because I work a first shift job and I have sleep phase sleep disorder which is basically night owl syndrome, meaning I can't fall asleep until 1 am or later and I have to get up at 7:30 am. Other than those things I feel good no cravings you drink.

I was ready to quit my job and move on. I was ready to leave my wife
I hung in there and things are ok. Not perfect. But, ok. I am sober though. That is a win.
I don't know the pain you feel. It might be 10x worse than I ever knew.
Drinking is a very short term fix and it ends up making you weaker after.
Stay clean. Don't believe the hype.
Drinking was a learned behavior. It can be unlearned.
Love love love.
Thanks.

I'm 8 days sober and I never intend to use or drink again. Everything is good except I'm in a lot of pain . I've brought this up to doc but he doesn't know what to do. I've tried pretty much everything. I could try a pain management specialist. I'm sure it's my job. I might have to just quit. I don't want to because it's the only job I've held more than a few months.

Pain is pain. You get tired of feeling like hell all the time. I get it. I have chronic pain at times. I broke my hip and back when I was 30 and I got addicted to pills and was still drinking. How I survived, I'll never know. However, you're not gonna outwork your pain if the job is causing it.
The economy, such as it is, is at an unusually weird place. Everyone is hiring right now. I see postings all the time from food to retail to IT to contractors and everything in between. You might have to pick your well being over your job. Just because you've stuck it out this long does not make it a good idea to stay.
Give yourself a chance to heal. You deserve better.

Congrats on 8 days and a great attitude David.
What kind of pain do you have? Muscle, spinal, nerve? Back pain?
I ask because there are holistic ways to deal with this - from strengthening exercises, to yoga, to accupuncture (which helps my friend who broke his back).
Again, not sure what it is, but do some research. Often Western medicine is limited to pain killers or surgery. There are better ways..

Hi David
Firstly well done on the 8 days, that's awesome.
Sorry to hear about your pain. My own point of view (and it is only mine; others will disagree and that's cool) is that apart from surgery or pain management (mostly including pain killers) you really only have one other course of action open that will help.
Surgery and 'proper' medicine have been scientifically proven. Alternative medicines have always failed in double blind trials. The reason they 'work' is that if you believe something will work to make you feel better it will! I.e. the placebo effect. That's the whole point of double blind trails.
So anyway what is that magical 'other course' I mentioned?! Well it's to address the pain at source. For example if someone had a bad knee but was delivering leaflets you'd recommend they stop (at least for a while) right? Well you mentioned you were sure it was your job that was causing your pain. I know leaving a job is often a big decision but what I would ask you to ask yourself is; is a job, any job, worth damaging your health over?
Whatever you decide and do I wish you well and keep talking to us.

Congrats on day 8! When I first got sober, I couldn't relate to anyone who had been sober more than a few months. I ran around asking everyone who had a couple of days sober how they managed to get through one whole day without drinking. It was miraculous to me. Regarding your job, now that you aren't drinking chances are you'll end up being able to stay in a job, and do well. I had a serious chronic injury from my job. I couldn't work for 2 years and had spinal surgery. Not fun. Did you find out what was causing the pain specifically? I had scar tissue that was irritating nerves to the point of making me collapse in pain, so those nerves were cut, on top of the spinal surgery.

Having read your posts for a bit now 100, it seems like day 8 is by far the most you've accumulated in recent times where it has been stop, start, trying like hell to get that momentum. That's fantastic stuff that you now have some momentum and you really seem to be on a good run. Keep it going. I won't comment on the pain stuff or your job as both are outside my sphere of knowledge!
