$12.71

That is what a fifth of cheapie vodka cost me per day. If I bought a handle, it may have been less per day. Three-day weekends that started Friday night started off with a handle, only to buying a second Saturday evening to ensure I wouldn't run out.

The craziness.

$12.71 x 7 is $88.97/week.

Alcohol is a thief and a liar.

Opportunity costs... I've paid a lot of that over the years...

According to my sober app I have saved a conservative $2,647.66 in 1 year 2 mo. and 16 days.
That doesn't count the money I have made that I probably would not have if I was still drinking.

As others have mentioned is not just the monetary costs. For me, the monetary costs were not the biggest problem.

For me, there were additional costs due to my short sighted mindset. It was when I went into recovery that I started planning ahead and that let me pay off my credit cards and start saving. During my drinking life, I spent frivolously and carelessly even when I wasn't sitting around drinking alcohol. And the alcohol related costs also included lost/damaged phones & tech items, debit cards, furniture damaged in a binge, lost keys, no call cancellation fees for various missed appointments, etc.

There are few things related to quitting that are not beneficial in some way. Certainly the money spent is one of them, but I feel the others are even greater.

Some great replies. I often wonder if the real dollar value lost isn't three times that.
And of course, the things that I missed that are priceless

I have to admit I did not save that money.
I put it down on a new boat!

Yep. After being sober for 2 years I suddenly realized I could actually afford a new (used) car. So I bought one.

The other day you were bemoaning the wasted years; in this thread, the wasted money. It's normal to regret our past actions. But for the alcoholic, regret and resentment are recovery killers.

Wasn't bemoaning. Celebrating actually.

Wow. the holier-than-thou attitude is really getting out of control here on SR.

Time to post somewhere else....

Stick around notch
Sometimes the way things come across are not the way we intended. One of the problems when dealing with text and not face to face. It can be hard to judge context.
I think everyone here wants you to succeed and some are just pointing out things you may not notice yourself. Doesn't always come across as helpful sometimes.
I unintentionally upset someone yesterday and I feel bad but I had no idea what I said would cause such a reaction.

We are far from a perfect bunch but in my experience those who respond to our posts genuinely do care.

If my post offended you, I'm sorry. Use the ignore function. But don't let one post that struck you as having attitude drive you away.

Two solid threads, Nez! It's tough going isn't it. The pure habit of it. Hope you're doing well today and will hold firm this weekend

Notch, everyone wants you to succeed. Some of the most abrupt comments people made to me when I was newly sober and super-sensitive turned out to be the most helpful. Most people mean well. I had to learn to not be affected too much by what a stranger posted on a web forum. It was good practice for Real Life, too.

I hope you're still with us. We all want you to succeed.

Same here! I would calculate how much money I would have spent on alcohol. I am 1,204 days alcohol free and before I was spending about $6.00 + on wine a day. If I was still drinking I would have spent $7,224.00!

Sorry for being sharp. I had to take a step away from the interwebz for a few days. I was getting snappy with everyone.

I, for one, absolutely LOVE realizing how much $ I used to spend.

It's an inspiration, not a resentment!

And now that I've quit smoking...

Cha-CHING!
