91 months yesterday
Just a reminder to everyone out there to stay vigilant. I haven't had cravings or any desire to drink or be around drinkers in many years. This week I found myself drifting away in my thoughts towards beer and reading about local breweries opening and stuff like that. It took me a couple of days to realize that this could be the beginning of the slippery slope of going back to drinking. I snapped out of it real quick and began playing the tape in my head again. The tape of misery, legal problems, wasted money, health problems, general physical misery, marriage problmes, anxiety and the list goes on. Back to normal again. I hope maybe this can help someone else who is thinking about going back to the miserable life as a drinker. Stay the course!

Congratulations..
I'm just 9 months in for now, I sometimes get these thoughts when I drive by LQ store..
I knew all the good work is still like a like a big balloon all it needs is that 1 sharp poke for it to burst..
From your message I realize have to be conscious for ever.. 9 or 90 doesn't change

91 months is great, but don't let your guard down. Alcohol is cunning, baffling, powerful and very, very patient.
If you drink now, because somehow you think you can moderate your intake, you likely will be back to your most horrible days in no time at all. And it will be much, much harder to get sober again.
I tell you this based upon my experience. I once had 66 months and thought I could handle alcohol in moderation. I failed that test miserably and spent the next 12 months trying to get sober again. It was so much harder to get sober again. I now have 131 months and I'm determined to never make that mistake again.

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude

Well done tnman.. I slipped into those pleasant thoughts after 3 years of sobriety and had a glass of wine when I was in Thailand.. which quickly turned into daily drinking again. I've managed a few months since but never long term.
