Now what? could use some thoughts..

It's been a minute since I've checked in. Finally, it seems like my plate is getting lighter. I just had another round of kidney stones and this time I passed 2. Not fun. The doctor said I'm gonna have to get surgery to get the last one removed. He said I could schedule it after covid as long as it wasn't causing issues.

So when they were doing a CT scan of my kidneys, I noticed on one of their reports that they mentioned chirrotic tissue and varicies. SAY WHAT?! The ER doctor never mentioned it directly to me, but it was on the report. I went back a year and looked at all my other CT scans and it was present last year too. FFFF!!!!!

So I high tailed it to my GP and she said all my liver tests were normal along with everything else and not to worry about it. She said if I was that worried she could point me to a vascular specialist to do more tests but she really thought it would be a one off kind of thing and maybe a once a year follow up.

I asked her why they hadn't said anything to me? She said she thought it was probably due to them being very small and inconsequential. That because all my other functions were normal, the danger of bleeding was pretty non existent.

I had a friend of mine pass away from esophagial varacies about 10 years ago. He bled to death. So this sort of has me freaked, but she said even if they got bad (which she didn't think would happen) there were plenty of treatments out there to help.

She said I've already done the work. That as long as I stayed sober, there was no reason to worry.

So...I'm very ....well...i dunno...

Trust doesn't come easy for me. But this woman has been an angel in my life from the day after i got out of the hospital. No doctors I ever had growing up were compassionate or even fair minded to me. So ...I guess trust her.

It feels weird to do that.

Coming up on 5 years in another 2 weeks. Crazy. I never thought I'd make it past a month.

Would insurance cover the vascular specialist? If so, why not do it? Just for peace of mind. But sounds like you're good.

I’d trust your Doctor. If she’s as good as you say she is, if there was reason to worry, she’d worry.

The bald fact is after a certain age we and our body parts don’t bounce back so well...but I figure if there’s no pain, it’s not getting worse and It won’t kill me, considering the insanity of the things I did for so long, I’m getting off lightly.

Congrats on the upcoming 5 years, J

Bulldog,

I totally get why you are worried, but if there has been no change over a year and your angel says its OK, its OK.

But worry is real, at least for me, so as as Briansy says, if it would make you feel better, why not see the specialist if its covered.

Also shows just how important the hard work you have done has been -- had you not stopped when you did, story might be different.

You are so important to us, hate to see you worried.

Sounds like you handled it well BullDog. One of my specialties is health anxiety and a few years back that would have sent me for an endless loop of worry, Dr. Google research and probably additional tests. Sounds like you have a great doctor and happy you were able to put your trust in her this time.

I agree you did the right thing by going straight to your doctor and asking some questions. It sounds like she has earned your trust.

Hi Bulldog,

Congrats on almost hitting the five year mark, that’s a huge milestone, and you should be very proud. I am glad you followed up with your doctor, and it sounds like you have a trusted relationship with her which is great. Now that you know about that you can monitor it, and it also sounds like your doctor had s plan if it ever was to become an issue.

Sending lots of love your way!
❤️ Delilah

Please trust your doctor and don't worry yourself unnecessarily. If your doctor was worried, she'd let you know, I'm sure.

Big hugs and congrats on your upcoming five year anniversary!
