Small victories

My phone contract just came to an end, it's a 2 year contract and I just turned to my partner to tell him its up and due for upgrade. I'm very happy with the phone and its in brand new condition. I said to partner 'you know this is the first phone thats made it through in one piece'
His reply 'yeah that's because you don't drink anymore'

Did not make the connection until he said

Obviously material things in recovery are less important than mental and bodily recovery but it's certainly another perk of soberity.

Every victory, big or small, is a victory and this sounds like one. Congratulations!

It's no small victory that you were able to add that when reporting your partner's response.
I do look forward to the day when someone that close to me makes a remark like that in what was apparently an affectionate and light-hearted tone.

That's amazing and I totally get why it's thread-worthy.

The victory felt after completing a marathon is built upon the individual victories of completing a lot of small strides. They are all important. One less stride and you didn't do a marathon!

I love that story LPG. I want to think that many small things remain whole both physical and non-physical when we stop drinking.

Brilliant achievement, Lpg, what a super observation! I can so relate to phones short lives due to damage/loss when I was drinking. Plus the disappearing/mislaid bank debit cards.....
