I’m proud of myself!

So I’m taking my daily evening walk and I walk around a gas station and I see a wallet on the ground by the gas pumps! No cars are at the pumps and no one is watching me!

I picked up the wallet and walked backed to my truck! I open the wallet and there’s $150 in it plus the guys drivers license, social security card, and credit cards!

When I walked back to my truck I was actually thinking about keeping whatever money was in the wallet and just throwing the wallet away!

Suddenly God, my recovery program, and this forum kicked in! At the same time I thought this $150 will pay for a weeks worth of food or groceries for the family! And who would know?

I would know and it would disrupt my peace of mind! So I walked back into the gas station and returned the wallet with the money in it to the owner and asked if he’d try and contact this person. The owner said thanks and yes he will try to make contact with the person through his drivers license!

Back in the day when I was drinking or even in my early sobriety days there’s not even a 1% chance that I would’ve returned that wallet! I want to thank this forum for helping me be a better person!

I agree with you completely. I would not be able to sleep if I didn't try to find the owner. Amazing how my early upbringing kicks in when I'm in my right mind.

I'm proud of you too!

The guilt trip from taking the money would hang around for the rest of your life. I imagine that would amount to pennies per day.
