“My short experience of AA many years ago was that it was primarily to assist people struggling with staying sober and not so much to support them with the causes of their alcoholism. Any thoughts?”
yes; AA offers a “design for living”, a way of being and living that is clear of the compulsion/obsession to drink.
as such, doing the step-work and implementing “these principles” into daily life removes the struggles to stay sober, and part of the stepwork is very much “we got down to causes and conditions”.
just adding to what O mentioned. not saying doing the stepstuff would “fix” depression and anxiety. but it certainly has the potential to resolve the condition of being an alcoholic without a drinking oroblem.
i like the way you put that. a lot.
it was kinda where i was at when i finally started going to AA after several years of sobriety.
i was an alcoholic without a drinking problem, but more to the point: an alcoholic without my “drinking solution”.
