Please stay on the Sober bus - pt.36
Dragon, our store has been out of tonic water since the pandemic began.
Last day of work, then heading down to Covid beach. I am pretty concerned about going, as there has been a huge spike in cases among 16-22 year olds who don't practice social distancing, then bring Covid back to their home state. If no one is practicing social distancing or wearing masks, we will likely come right back home. Bummed, because this is my only vacation of the year.
I showed my then young teens Airplane a few years back, and most of the jokes fell flat on them. I didn't realize how dated the references were. They never saw a row of pay phones in their lives, so when the reporters raced to grab a phone and they toppled over, it wasn't that funny. My daughter asked if sniffing glue was a thing back then. I have found many movies that I thought were great back in the day lacking when seen today, ala Caddyshack. Makes me appreciate how old I am!
On the bus, second coffee in hand.
Happy riding all!

I'm on.
Sending healing vibes your way Venuscat.
Humour certainly does date. I found Airplane hilarious when I saw it at the pictures (movie house) but I have not watched it since because I don't want to be disappointed (I have seen clips and it still seems funny) I remember people wearing Don't call me Shirley badges in the months after. Mostly what I remember is the sheer volume of gags.
Have a grrreat Friday!

It's dated for sure but still brilliant....my favourite part of the whole movie is the assistant dude that gets more and more off his tree as the movie goes on. And the horse. And the nun. And the woman who speaks jive. And the auto pilot. And the end of the movie. And of course ET.....just love that.....oh....and the red zone/blue zone/white zone announcers and their fight, and of course the Hare Krishnas......
I never saw the sequel though, I thought it was done....although would have liked to see what happened to Ted and Elaine.
And it was called Flying High in Australia.

So much to read and catch up on! Good to hear you've got through that awful skin treatment Leigh .
Love the paintings PJ, thanks for showing them
I really loved the Airplane movie first time round. Surprisingly I've never heard of the Big Bus movie but would love to see it, shame it's not free on YouTube like a lot of other oldies but goodies.
Happy 4th of July to our lovely American friends

It's been an extra busy week this week for me. DIL's mother had to go back on life support and deteriorated. She was taken off life support on last Monday and died.
My DIL is taking it badly, she's not really coping well but then she hasn't been for a long time really due to other reasons. She was very dependent on her mother. It's a sad and difficult time.
She can't cope with the children most of the time, but that has been going on since she had them,(amazingly she even wanted another one but was discouraged thank goodness - she just assumed her mum would help out) that's why I now go round every day. Thank goodness I'm sober and some strength back so I can cope as I don't know how my son would cope on his own. He is basically a single parent, and carer besides having a full time job.
Anyway, we're just keeping on keeping on and the children are fine, that's the important thing for everyone.
Personally, I feel quite melancholy rather than depressed, sort of at a loss for words (well, more than usual anyway)
