Morning all The weather here has turned cold and grey since sunny yesterday. Oh well, the hedge is still in bloom and we have an interesting weed in our tiny garden. It looks like a tall dandelion but on googling I think it might be a wild lettuce.

I'm on the sober bus wahey

Hi Spanked, hang in there, it's so worth it. Dog groomer eh? I admire the work they do, my scruffy puppy wouldn't stand for a stranger cutting his fur, so I have to do it. He goes from mop to almost bald several times a year.

That has been the single most effective help I've had in staying sober. Absolute godsend in the earlier days, I found the games threads therapeutic and helped me feel less alone when the withdrawal and depression was at it's worst. Still a godsend, so good to be in touch with people with the same 'relationship to alcohol' as me, if that's the right way to put it.

This is what the comedian Alexei Sayle says on his humour"I think that my ideas of the world are that it's random and cruel but kind of quite comical really, and therefore the humour, in a sense, springs from that."

I think that that's how I see it too.

A huge help for me this time around has been Annie Grace and The Alcohol Experiment (without the optional drinking) ~ 30 day challenge gives you a different lesson/video to learn from each day....I've repeated it from time to time 'cause there's so much info.....also similar to her book "This Naked Mind" which I still haven't read yet.

(In addition to being here on SR with you all!)

I know Halloween is months away, but Best. Costume. Ever.

I was a TV set one year. Same idea, cheap and easy for my single mom who worked for RCA (a major electronics company back in the day.) Real knobs and an antenna. My head was the "picture."

I'll post it again in October and you will have forgotten all about it.

On/in the bus.

Many great suggestions here SBL. Always remember the Halt triggers: hungry, angry.lonely and tired. Overwhelming urges are usually the product of one of these being whack. If you haven't done so already, join the May 2020 or June 2020 thread and post constantly there. You will meet a bunch of folks with the same quit time as you and going through many of the same things as you are going through. My group is still occasionally active even five years out.

CK, congrats on the big 3.5! You are really adding time to your sobriety and you are such an integral part of the Sober Bus!

Best wishes for a good day all!

oh. I don't actually have a kid picture of me. I meant I would repost this VW bus one.

Or not, I'm sure I'll forget.

Oh my goodness. If that child in the VW Bus costume came to my door, I would empty my candy bowl into his bag. Too cute for words.

Welcome spankedbylife! Hang in there, it does get easier with time.

I have just been looking at pictures of Bhutan it's supposed to be the happiest country on Earth. I think the Sober Bus needs to head off there.

A good thread this. I use word games via FB to keep a connection going with a few cousins (what family I have I keep close- as my own is way away) and friends. My scores sometimes are half theirs- but the connection is the important bit. Like here. Especially now. Love the cakes (as always) Leigh.

I think the kid with the cardboard combi is a ring-in. Once their is tacit consent to the transaction of lollies being established- the kid will speak into a microphone hidden in his tee shirt, and dad will turn up in a real combi- the one which needs filling with candy.

The best way to distract kids from accepting candy from a stranger- which. lets face it- is what we teach kids- is to offer them nutritious finger foods- sticks of celery, carrot and turnips.

Thanks for the Uku-cake-a-lele Leigh!

In addition to Stars HALT explanation, I'll add Thirsty/Hydrated. I figured out once that a string of cravings I was experiencing was due to Dehydration.

Bhutan or bust! If your not happy, they push off the cliff! (just kidding)
