Please stay on the Sober bus - pt.35
It is still a little early for firefly season here in Pennsylvania. The numbers seems to decline every year, but usually increase late June and July. I love to stare across my yard and watch the light show when they are active.
On the bus, coffee in hand.
Be safe all!

Firefly is my little gorilla friend, four year old "Yola"

Yola, which means “firefly” in the African language Hausa was chosen because the baby gorilla became a spark that catalyzed and solidified the bonds within her gorilla group

Wow this happened 40 years ago....I was 3 at the time so I don't remember, but I remember how scary it was to cross this bridge afterwards, since it was down to only two lanes until the new one was built. Leigh or Bim you may be familiar....not sure how long you've lived here in FL.

I'm in Washington now and we had the same thing happen on the Tacoma Narrows bridge. They call that bridge, "Galloping Gerty," because of the way it rolled in the wind before collapsing.
I don't remember the Skyway bridge, but 40 years ago I was in my twenties and drinking heavily. I missed the seventies and part of the eighties completely.

I wasn't aware of that happening in your area as well....So scary huh? Can't even imagine
Here is an image of the current Skyway....while crossing it you can see what's left of the old one, which is now used a fishing pier....still gives me chills to see it, but we can cross this one thanks to the Soberbus!

Purps, I remember hearing about the Skyway Bridge collapse and seeing the images on the news. It really ‘struck’ me as there was a similar bridge that we needed to cross to get to the beach in my home state. Crossing it now, you can’t help but remember and consider how terrifying it must have been for those poor souls involved. Recently, we were crossing and a cruise ship was passing directly underneath the mid-span. From our viewpoint, it looked as though there were barely inches between the highest point of the ship and the underside of the bridge. My husband and I both held our breath.
Bim, the Disappearing Bridge - how cool. I wonder what it feels like to enter and emerge from it, with water on both sides of you and the realization that you will soon be under it. Gulp!
Dragon, the Confederation Bridge almost looks like fun!

I'm on late today (busy)
I would love to see fireflies, we don't have them here.
I have been to a conference where the man who designed the Viaduc Millau did a short video link speech. It is an exceptional piece of engineering. He designed the Vasco de Gama in Lisbon too.

This old bridge is not far away from me. Not very impressive but necessary for getting over the CP rail yards has an interesting history.
The story goes that the Cleveland Iron Works had finished a bridge that was supposed to cross the Blue Nile River in Sudan. The contract fell through and the city bought it at a significantly reduced cost..
Built in 1912, it was supposed to be demolished this year, but the city is still planning the replacement.
I am always a little freaked out crossing bridges. Twenty percent of bridges in my state are structurally deficit yet remain open. Deferred maintenance over the years is catching up to us.
Harriet, you are not the only one feeling down. The whole virus situation and people's responses to it have been stressful to say the least. Keep riding the sober bus.

Harriet, I hope you feel better today. A walk outdoors always helps me. The green and the pace of a walk is very healing.
Can you explain (or show us a different picture) that transporter bridge? I don't know what "transporter" means, and I cannot figure out how that thing works! What, do you fly up to the ends of it? I'm guessing the whole structure goes up and down?
On the bus.
Under my favorite bridge here, the Deception Pass bridge
