Day 3 for the 100th time!

Been lurking here for many years.

Today is day 3. I made a commitment that I wanted to quick by the end of the year, and after some thought decided to make it a Christmas present to myself to quick by Christmas Day. So I went on a three day and Sunday was my last day drinking.

Its been a wild ride so far....the detox and anxiety. Look forward to interacting with everyone here. I feel like I know many of you already as I followed the forums for a while.

Hello, Notch8

After lurking for years, you know we're a friendly, diverse and supportive lot. Stick around, post day and night. It really helps to communicate - at least that's what I've found.

Thanks for the replies and the welcome. I am taking something to sleep for the first week or so. If I can get past the first few days/nights, I feel I reached a turning point. Its been a long, long time that I had three days in the bag! Usually the insomnia and nightmares do me after one day. I am on vacation until Monday, so the pressure to get good sleep isn't there like it would be if I had to be up at 5am.

I also re-started my walk/run program, so I'm pretty pumped about that. Also am looking at diet as well, but there is so much info out there. Everyone has the "golden ticket" when it comes to diet.

The first week is definitely the worst for the physical symptoms. The silver lining though is that it's also the time of the most marked improvement from day to day. Glad you have come here and are posting regularly- it was very helpful for me to look back and see how much things improved in a short period of time.

Be well and peace be with you in the new upcoming year. You are already past day 3, before you know it that could be 300 :-)

Welcome!

Don't hesitate to reach out for face to face support in your community. For me that was AA.

Don't worry about being the "new guy" in AA. After New Year's Eve a lot of new people show up.

Hey there Notch8!! I am glad you are here . It sounds like try 100 is the one that got you past that day 3, here is to never giving up!

I would love to follow your progress on the "Occasionally we like to count our days" thread, lots of support and encouragement there.

Almost have day 7 in the bag. First weekend in a very long time that I wasn't passed out by this time. The afternoon just flew by. Did some cooking for the family and some meal prep for myself for the week. Hoping to catch some TV or a good movie. I watched an old James Bond movie last evening and I actually remember the ending! Sobriety is a weird time warp compared to being toasted most of the time.

Isn’t it great? I’ve wrote a couple times here about watching a movie or tv and actually being engaged and remembering it. It’s the small things day by day that have made a world of difference for me. Congrats on a week!

Drove past the liquor store about mid-afternoon. Not a parking space to be found. I always made sure I had a reserve for holidays so I wouldn't have to be "that guy" that rushed in at the last minute for liquor.

I'll be having a banana/strawberry smoothies instead, if I manage to stay up late enough. I want to be up tomorrow by daybreak to get a workout done before the family is up and about.
