A Good Example?

During my Recovery journey, I have gone through many "Phases"
At first, I was the newcomer, quite sick and scared to be sober, but more scared to keep drinking myself to death.
I was a student learning how to live again.
I have been a mentor.
I have spoken at schools about addiction.
I have been a volunteer.
There is so much more, but what really freaks me out, is that I NEVER...EVER thought that I would be the good example! I was the black sheep for so long, I still can't believe it. I can't believe that people ask me "How did you do it?" and they mean something positive! Not " Why did you do that, again?" I suppose I would be considered an "Old Timer" at this point, and that freaks me out too! I remember Seeing a 9 month chip and thinking "Some Day, Some Day....I am going to have 9 whole months" I remember it like it was yesterday, that was over 25 years ago. Sometime I still can't believe it myself...LOL, Me..a "good" example...giggling

Just rambling......Cathy

You were one of the people who was here when I started and one of the comparative few who's still here today.

I looked up to those who had a track record of good recovery.

You've always been an example to me Cathy

You don't think about it at the time, but your good behaviors are noticed by others and can affect their lives.

Goodatcha Cathy! Recovery never ceases to amaze me.

All those years when I was stuck in the revolving door of relapse, I felt like the poster child for "Don't let this happen to you!". A few years into recovery I felt a shift in status to where I became the poster child for "Damn if nez can do it, so can I". Today I feel more like an example of "It works, if you work it.".

The credit is not mine, but the debt is, but it is one I am grateful to pay on going forward.

Thanks for this post Cathy.

I'm getting to a point in my recovery where I'm beginning to think I may also be a good example. After YEARS of relapsing and unhealthy behaviours, I think I'm starting to get things right....

Absolutely. Very jealous when I see those numbers go up!
