Hello

Hello,

I have been on this forum before.

For the last couple of years I have had mixed good times and bad times with controlling my drinking. It certainly hasn't been like it has been in the more distant past, but in these last few months I have found I have 'had' to have at least one day drinking a week, and sometimes three. Each of those days I drink perhaps 5 pints of strong beer.

But even though the amounts are not as 'heroic' (why do we use that word?!) as in the more distant past, I'm finding that my current drinking is definitely taking a toll on my health - both physical and mental (I feel really depressed the day after drinking, before my mood goes back to more neutral the following day). And my weight has gone up, and my energy has gone down.

So I need to get completely sober again, and for good (I've had four years before, and I was definitely much healthier and happier, but I'm sure none of you will be surprised as that!).

It feels good to be back here, where I know I'll get the support that helps get me past the bumps in the road.

P.S. Today is day 8. The last couple of days have been hard (which is the main reason I've come back here).

Welcome back, some don't make it.
It's up to you now. I remember when my choice to drink or not was taken away by addiction. I had to drink.
You no longer have to now that you've got eight days sober, the physical withdrawal is gone.
I had to go to any length to get sober. AA was a big help. Coming here.
Just remember, you never have to drink again if you're willing to go to any length to stay sober and are serious about quitting.

You sound ready and you've already taken a big step by coming back here.
You can post in the newcomers thread. There are various threads you can join in on there.
You can do it. Many of us are. Join us.
Best to you.
