Bloods came back.
My blood test results have come back. My liver function is slightly high, but nothing to worry about. It’s the same for my cholesterol. Seems a little bit unbelievable considering the amount of alcohol that’s been through it. I do have other symptoms but my DR said come back in a month to check how I’m doing.
Hello, Dexter, sorry, but I don't see what's so great about it.
You have two choices:
In the back of your mind somewhere you say, "I haven't done myself that much harm, so it can't hurt to drink some more; I'm not hurting myself."
Or: "I dodged a bullet. Getting a second chance. I'm taking advantage of it. No more drinking for me."
If you take advantage of your break, it's good news. If the test results rationalize a "little" more drinking for "a while," it's meaningless news.
I've made both choices. Eventually I found the second choice to be more satisfying in the long run.

I had a similar thought about how I would have taken such news.
a) Good news that I am not going to die today.
b) Bad news that if I am an alcoholic I am still actually dying
c) Therefore there is still time to have a few more.

This is how I look at at, its good news that I’m not going to drop dead in the next five minutes. What stops me from drinking is the mental health rather than the physical side. As I’ve got older my mental health has got worse. After one night of drinking the next day it makes me suicidal. I just can’t do it any more both mentally or physically. I also don’t trust doctors and I don’t believe the blood test show the full story. Obviously, as an ageing alcoholic I would know more than a highly trained doctor. Haha
That might be truer than you think. Back home at medical school, about four hours is devoted to addiction, and at least two of those are taken by speakers provided by NA and AA. Most doctors are not that clued up which is why they are easy to con, if one were that way inclined.
