Weight loss drugs and their efficacy for stopping drinking
Weight loss drugs and their efficacy for stopping drinking
The correlation between weight loss drugs (Semaglutide/Tirzepatide) and the almost effortless cessation of constant food noise is also being studied as a potential use for alcoholism.
I am finding them to be exceptionally effective in a rather abrupt manner for almost entirely removing any desire to consume not only food, but alcohol.
I can hardly believe how instantaneously effortless my experience has been while on these meds.
Curious if others are experiencing the same.

I am afraid I have significant issues around this. First of all, they are two different drugs, and Tirzepatide is said to be a hazardous drug that can cause acute kidney injury, according to the Mayo Clinic and many other reliable sources.
Hi Soberleigh and Dee
I am partnering with my doctor who also knows about my alcoholism. She indicated that many of her other patients with use disorders, are finding this to be rather miraculous.
I am too - Its been an absolute game changer.
I dont think we are able to post links to other sites, but a quick google search or reddit search will show that these drugs are really making huge strides with "compulsions".

This is very interesting. It doesn't appear that it can be rx'd for alcoholism, only for weightloss or diabetes. The reduced drinking is just an added benefit? So ultimately this would not be helpful to someone who has an alcohol issue, but not a weight issue - is this correct?
"Yet" is the operative word.
Since I began this med, I have effortlessly (and I'm not exaggerating here) stopped drinking, smoking, benzos and weed.
I have also stopped, again effortlessly, picking my cuticles, doom scrolling and compulsively shopping.
These alone would be worth the price of admission.
I'm paying out of pocket because my insurance wont cover as somehow I have managed to escape diabetes and hypertension despite my adverse behavior.
For me, weight loss is an added bonus.
After a solid quarter century in absolute agony with cross-addictions and anxiety, in the matter of literal hours, I had full self control.
I have never had full self control.
This is nothing short of a miracle.

There is some intriguing research into these drugs and their effects on AUD and other substance issues. I've got an interest in news like this as a bystander only so nothing personal to relate, but with proper research, this could prove effective in a supervised routine. Much more research needed, especially into the long term side effects, but great news for you, AO!
