I tried to tell myself that, even as my friends grew up and quit coming around the bars every night like I did.

Toward the end, it was just the bartender, other alcoholics and me.

It was quite a revelation to learn when I finally got sober that the whole world doesn't commence drinking every time the sun starts going down.

I look fine. I feel fine. It’s ok to keep drinking until the doctor tells me I need to stop.
🙄🙄🙄.

For me the biggest lie was that my life wasn’t worth living sober. That I might as well throw it away and get drunk.

Yeah right

How about "they drink wine all day in France and Italy. It's not really even considered drinking!"

"You don't have a problem, you just like beer. Everyone has things that they like, this is no different."

I told myself this for years, and believed it for most of that time. It wasn't until the evidence started piling up that I even started to consider that it might not be true.

No-one notices - yeah, right!
I am not hurting anyone by drinking at home, alone - so ignoring parents is ok??
I will NOT buy vodka on the way home - but end up getting some anyway
It does not affect my work - it does, because today I bunked off

Interesting thread!

One of the biggest lies I've been telling myself well into years of sobriety is that I need a reason to be happy. Never realised I am allowed to be happy for no reason.
