Experiential Wisdom - insight

Not to do any evil, To cultivate good, To purify one's mind - This is the advice of the Buddhas.” - Dhammapada

tanha dukkhassa sambhavam ~ craving is the origin of suffering”

Where there is a sensation there is an instant reaction. It doesn't matter if it's pleasant or unpleasant . The habit pattern is to either want it to be there or want it not to be there.

However, the true nature of the sensation is impermanence, continual change, continually rising and passing away.

Contemplate a pot of simmering water. Bubbles rise and pass away : a constant, rapid change. In this way sensations rise and pass away. Understand this through personal experience. Further : the clinging, attachment, to these ephemeral bubbles, or craving for them to be there or not to be there results in a deep dissatisfaction.

This deluded habit pattern of craving and aversion is the cause of misery.

This understanding can be had by practising the meditation as taught by the Buddhas.

By the constant, continual detached awareness, observation of the sensations as they arise and pass away on the mind body phenomenon, usually referred to as self, using the strength of a concentrated, focused mind and by not creating further unwholesomeness by maintaining the morality precepts the old stock of misery starts to be pass away ultimately leading to full liberation.

Experiential Wisdom or Insight brings benefit to those who practice it. Intellectualising does not. It is to be experienced. It is through the direct experience that right understanding arises and it is through each individual walking the noble eightfold path themselves that the end is reached. No magic. No magic thinking.

Hi Grymt

Is not ignorance of the true nature of reality at the root of all cravings and aversion ?

Ignorance is at the base of every link of the "wheel of becoming" - bhava-cakka. See "The Law of Dependent Origination".

The Buddha said : "The man with craving as his companion has been flowing in the stream of repeated existences from time immemorial. He comes into being, experiences various types of miseries, dies again and again, and does not put an end to this unbroken process of becoming."

and "Rightly understanding the perils of this process,
Fully realizing craving as its cause,
Becoming free from craving and attachment,
One should mindfully lead the life of detachmen
t"

and "A follower of the Buddha, with concentration, awareness and constant thorough understanding of impermanence, knows with wisdom the sensations, their arising, their cessation and the path leading to their end. A meditator who has reached the end of sensations is freed from craving, is fully liberated" - and no longer ignorant. Experientially Wise. Through Insight.
