5 years and 7 months
 

It's that time again. My monthly reminder to myself to stay the course. Marching towards six years. The funny thing is that this time I knew it was for real. I had did halfhearted attempts over the decades, but this time I did it for me. Not for the state, not for the spouse or for any other dubious reason. I did it because I wanted sobriety more than anything on earth. If you struggle today, take a mental inventory and ask yourself if you want to quit. If you have any kind of doubt and or feeling that you want to continue to drink. Then you are not ready. That's my opinion. You have to want to stay sober or it's fruitless. Controversial opinion in some circles but trust me. I'm here and I haven't touched the stuff in over five years. The only other time that I was sober for any lenght of time it was in 1996. I stayed sober for one year but struggled everyday becasue I didn't really want to give up my so called fun life with drink. Oh how wrong I was. I didn't begin to live until I got off the booze. What are you waiting for? Stop now and begin the life you were meant to live.
