New Years Resolutions seem less stressful (important?)

After getting sober and quitting smoking New Years resolutions seem less stressful, less despair of failure, and a less gloomy outcome. I would always dread this time of year knowing I should stop smoking, stop drinking, and lead a healthier life.

Make no mistake there is no better gift or resolution you can do for yourself. Seize it.

Great post jryan, and I agree - what a better gift could one give to yourself?

I don't know if I will ever be the sort to establish resolutions for a year, it certainly is a good time on the calendar to reflect about where we have been and where we would like to be. There are goals that I would find helpful to me to achieve in the coming days that would certainly be achievements that I know would lead me into a healthier and happier life. Presently I'm going to make sure that those things are manageable for me, which is another way of setting expectations. To that end, these goals are broad but measurable, and I will be happy to see progress.

I am making a couple of NY resolutions this year (improve my golf game and get much much fitter and stronger) on the basis that not drinking is a given. I am realising this is a dangerous mindset. Need to stay focused but it's harder when you start to feel normal again after 2 weeks.

I don't think I've made a resolution in my life. But I've noticed that January is always a big anniversary month in the rooms of AA so I suppose they work for some.
