Dee mentioned the practice of “urge surfing”, a mental/psychological technique for letting urges and cravings come and go without acting on them. Try googling the subject and you’ll get many hits. Try it out, it works. You still need a bit of will power but not as much as for just sucking it up. Worth a try at least.

I think "urge surfing" would be good for me to learn because when my urges hit my brain I run fast to the bar before it subsides.

I never give myself time to calm down because I am in such a high state of anxiety, panic, and a quick drink (yeah right) takes the edge immediately away.

but, we all know where that leads to each and every time.

sometimes I want to drink, I really do have fun - for about the first hour, then I turn into a alien.

If you have a serious craving have a milkshake. Because alcohol is all sugar the mind thinks it's a drink. But what really works is getting in a program.
