Overnight use of SoberLink
Hello,
I have a question which recovering alcoholics might be able to help me with (and if this is not the right forum, please delete or redirect):
Ex-husband is alcoholic, still drinking. He has visits with our child which are monitored by SoberLink testing every two hours. He has gone for two months now without a failed test. He wants to move to having some overnight visits once a week. I am nervous about this because his pattern has been to start drinking late at night, continue drinking all night and get into trouble (anything from passing out to getting arrested) early in the morning. However, I recognize that it’s not realistic for me to expect him to stay up all night and test every two hours.
Any suggestions for a procedure which might be a disincentive to drinking all night when Kid is with him? In my ideal world Kid would never be spending the night with him, but that’s a hard position for me to maintain, especially as he has gone for two months without failing SoberLink. I’m trying to think of harm reduction strategies.

ETA: I just re-read your post and missed the part about having custody of the child... I can see your concern of wanting test every few hours!
Hmmm.... I think I understand the question. Would it be unreasonable to ask him to blow at 6am? If he's passed out and can't, there's your answer. If he does and it comes up hot, then there's you answer, too. If he blows and its squeaky-clean, its all good.
Does Soberlink provide a BAC, or just if the booze is there or not? I'm somewhat familiar with these devices.

He has gone for two months now without a failed test.
Two months is very early in recovery/sobriety. How long was his addiction active before he's been sober?
Has he had good recovery periods before?
He wants to move to having some overnight visits once a week.
"No." can be used as a complete sentence. This isn't a punishment.
