Great day...

Today is a beautiful day. I got all my test results back. I've got a 100% clean bill of health. Even my blood sugar was in the acceptable range.

I'm fat, but I'm pretty healthy. I talked to my Dr. and in light of this, I've hired a nutritionist to work with and got a membership to an indoor aquatic center so I can exercise without the stress on my joints.

It's time to get the weight off. I feel very hopeful right now.

thanks for being there for me.

Bull,

I have sober role models. They don't drink.

Some are famous, some are relatives, some are coworkers.

I copy them. I don't drink.

I work out 4 to 7 days a week.

It is amazing. I can't believe I was able to drink like I did for so long.

It is a new life.

Thanks.

Good news, indeed.
I think working with a nutritionist is a great way to go.
I have contemplated it, as I gained 15 lbs the first winter we moved back to Massachusetts (it was a dreadful winter!) and just couldn’t drop the weight.
Then I went to work at a big box garden center this spring and summer and dropped 10 lbs.
Not sayin you should do the same. Just...that worked for me.

Great news!! I knew it.

Best of luck with the nutritionist. Please report back what the recommendations for you are...tell him/her you are an alcoholic, Id be curious to hear whether it gets tailored to that.

Good news to read this morning bulldog.

Im not sure what happened in my brain
a few months back, but a switch was flipped
and now I absolutely realize and accept
that the foods I use to eat for most of my
life never worked and never will work
for me.

With continuous reading and understanding
about different foods and the affects they
have on our bodies, I was ready to eliminate
them completely and begin feeding on only
the healthy ones.

Along with the change of eating I have been
exercising daily in our pool using stretch chords
to strengthen and get the body moving more
to shed unwanted weight too.

As a good reminder to ourselves that will
be helpful and positive is that it has taken
many yrs to accumulate this unwanted
weight from eating unhealthy. Enough was
and is enough. With each day that passes
that we don't eat bad foods and add exercise
to it, we will loose the weight. Slowly but
surely.

So don't be discouraged if you hit a plateau.
Continue on day by day and look for support
to travel with you as you begin your journey
to achieving a healthier you, me, or us.

Definitely. I'm really curious on how she's going to approach this.
Thanks for the support Sassy.

I think one of the hardest parts to this is going to be losing the soda. The dr told me that I shouldn't even be drinking diet. Apparently it's not just bad for my organs but it's not good for Diabetics as it can fool the pancreas into thinking it's processing sugar.
I like fizzy water so I guess it's down to seltzer and club.

My wife also said she wouldn't bake anything for at least 6 months.
I'm gonna miss cookies too. You can take away ice cream and cake...but cookies....man...that's gonna be tough.

An Reese's fastbreaks..........Lord, I'm gonna miss those.

When I go shopping most all my groceries
are in the produce section, frozen veggie
section, frozen seafood section, dairy section
with organic eggs, organic unsweetened
almond milk, a few dry goods like organic
oatmeal, selected seafood in can like smoked
sardines that I drain.

Most everything else, which is practically
the entire grocery section filled with preservative
can or packaged foods that are all dangerous
to my health.

Once I did my research for the healthy
foods I want to eat and know where they
are located in the stores then I can skip
the rest of the crap and go straight to what
is on my list to avoid any kind of temptation.

It the same with alcohol addiction....once
you learn all about addiction and apply a
program to your everyday life, so is the
same or similar to food addiction.

Yes, just like alcohol, they can pretty
up the packages and light them up nicely
to lure you to them and yet, as an alcoholic
in recovery, I know it's all poison and
could and would take me out. Same thing
with foods. They advertise them greatly
on tv and pack them tightly on shelves
drawing us to them to keep us unhealthy.

I cant believe it has taken me my entire
life to realize food has been toxic to my
life and no matter how hard I had tried
in the past to make subtle changes, looking
for huge results, it never worked until
I accepted that fact and got sick and tired
of doing it my way.

Better late than never to correct and
apply a healthy solution to food addiction.

Now when I see a burger king commercial
on tv, I can pick apart the entire burger and pin
point the only ingredient that is healthy
on it. Jalapeno peppers. lol

I would have a tough time giving up diet soda as well. Its very hard giving up things when we have done the monumental task of giving up alcohol.

I have ping ponged like crazy: low carb for two weeks, pizza and cookies for four days straight. Measured healthy meals for a few weeks, then bread and oatmeal cookies for a week. My weight goes up. My weight goes down. My weight goes up.

Unfortunately it's creeping up to a higher amount every month. The one constant? Weightlifting. I can't even do cross fit right now but three times a week, I lift.

Can you treat yourself to a weight bench? Think about it. some of what you eat will always be packed into your muscle as glycogen if you lift. Your functional strength will increase. Back pain will lessen. My husband is fat and he plays bass in a band: he was plagued with shoulder pain until he started lifting. Also: lifting doesn't pound the joints when you are curvy like me or big like my husband. But what it does is so good stuff. My body comp is way different at this weight because I lift.

Something to think about because the diet unfortunately is just a really tough one to deal with for some of us with alcohol addictions.

When I was playing football that's what I used to do except I ate chicken too.
I'm really interested in how the nutritionist is planning on feeding this old guy.

I've gotta be careful with weightlifting. I've got a twisted umbilical hernia. The doctor told me I ought not do any more lifting until after my surgery.

I've got a bench here at the house I can use and I'm still very strong in my upper body. It's my hips, lower back and knees that are shot.

Last winter when my neighbor was over, we were messing around on the bench. I can still push almost 370 pounds.

After I told the doctor that, she was none too happy.

Weightlifting used to take an incredible amount of calories to keep up but I was strength training for either MMA or football or wrestling.

Any weightlifting I do after the surgery is probably gonna be with a little less than1/3 of that. I'll probably start that with high rep counts so I can lean out. Nothing weirder to me than a guy with a massive upper body and chicken legs. Brock Lesnar is one of them. It's like he forgot everything below his waist.

I'm about 6'5" and I weigh 290-295. I want to be about 215-220. For me, that's going to make a huge difference in my ability to do things. I'm a true Mesomorph. When I kick off the bulk of the gut, everything else will be pretty close to being ideal.

I'm excited to get started. I just went out and got 6 cases of seltzer water. The only caffeine for me will be in my black coffee from now on. blech...

Great news BD.

I have friends who are dropping weight hand over fist these days, and I'm sure you can, too.

Please be careful lifting weights at the level you do.

I have had 4 weightlifting-related surgeries.

I have determined that they are God's way of letting me know He wants me to just be a runner, which I have been for most of my life.

Good luck with your dietary and exercise efforts and, of course, your sobriety-related work.

No more lifting weights for me until after my hernia surgery. I've been swimming most of the day today. It was fun but I can already feel my shoulders are sore. Good news is that's all that's sore.

I'm going back again tomorrow.

After 3 vacations in succession, my pants have gotten a little tight to say the least.

I plan to get back out on the pavement real soon.

And in the gym for work on my lower back (strengthening muscles) and cardio.

I am pretty good about dietary maintenance also.
