Welcome Stuart! You're in the right place for encouragement, friendship & support.

For me, the only way was to stop all together. I spent many years trying to use willpower to control how much I drank. I failed every time. Once it was in my system, it led to an unexpected outcome. It was wonderful to finally be free of it. You can do this.

Welcome, Stuart!

Alcohol has a way of taking over one's life without us even realizing it. The only way I could reclaim my sanity was to stop completely.

Support helps immensely. SR provided that for me.

You can do this!

One day, one hour at a time.

Welcome

I found I had to stop completely. Once I started drinking, I became unable to stop.

If you have to control it, it's already out of control.

Just quit. In the long run, it's easier.

If I could control it I wouldn't be an alcoholic. The first step says: "powerless over alcohol......" which means when I pick up a drink I have no control over what happens. I always got drunk despite my best intentions. Suggest reading the stickeys about alcoholism.
