18 weeks...a totally new me.

It seems like yesterday I had my final drink. I have totally changed my life for the better, and I can’t imagine ever going back. I was at 23 percent body fat, out of shape, exhausted, unhealthy, and depressed.

I not only quit alcohol, but I chose to eat completely clean. Lean meats, fruits, veggies, dairy, and whole wheats. No more junk...and I took up exercise. I stayed committed and built my way up in the gym, trails, and on the road.

11 percent body fat now. I could barely run a mile without dying. I’m now at 10-12 mile runs at a sub 8 mile pace. I ran a 10K (6.2miles) yesterday in 45 minutes with an average 7:30 mile pace! I’m getting closer to sub 7 minute miles by the day, and truly becoming an athlete. In the Marines...I could run, but I never saw myself as a GREAT runner. It’s now becoming a reality. I truly am capable of remarkable things, and so are all of you!

I’m now competing in Elite Spartan races. Racing side by side with professional athletes. Some of the most in shape people around the country.

I have a lot of work to do in the gym and on my runs, but I’m happy, healthy, and addicted to my new life.

I pray for all of you. Embrace sobriety. Find your grind, and put 110 percent into your life goals. Alcohol took so much from me, but I have gained so much more from quitting it. We are truly capable of remarkable things when sober! I pray for those of you who struggle to find your inner strength, and discover the many great potentials you possess!

Carry on...and keep fighting.

That's great! Love that exercise has become a big part of your recovery- it's really helped mine too. What else are you doing to keep going? I found that when I was felled by a back injury in Mar and had to seriously adjust pretty much everything in my life, I was very grateful to have my program (mine is AA) to bolster me, especially in emotional sobriety.

Keep going!
