I agree 100% with the above. My failure in the past has been to basically stop drinking without having something there to successfully stop and to stay stopped. The end result was that I would always end up drinking again, partly out of boredom and partly because I had nothing there to take the place of drinking.

I quit with the support of an online group.

I later attended 12 step programs to support my personal growth and recovery path.

i used his smoking one when I quit in 2009. Very effective. The same principles work for drinking.

The OP is asking for recommendations on recovery methods that work, not reasons that others don’t work. I also don’t see anyone asking for personal argument either, so please keep those to PMs. And finally, remember that negative debates about recovery methods are not allowed. Several posts have been removed, please stay on topic.

I got sober using weekly counseling sessions and daily visits to SR. I no longer see the counselor but still come here every day.

Honestly: I've used SR.

But not for accountability. No website or recovery group can be accountable for me. I thought they could but I was wrong.

SR is for support and ongoing dialogue about alcoholism from the alcoholics point of view: not easily found outside recovery circles.

My accountability is my own.
