Alcoholism, heartbreak, jail, and death....
Alcoholism, heartbreak, jail, and death....
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share the sad outcome of my alcoholic uncle who died this morning in a prison infirmary. He was an alcoholic his entire life and gave up on trying to quit. He was sent to prison on his 7th DUI charge 4 months ago, most likely the only 4 months he was sober ...ever. He was diagnosed in jail with cirrhosis and pancreatic cancer, both caused by years of alcohol abuse. He lost everything because of alcohol.....his relationships, his freedom, his dignity, and his life.
He died alone this morning, without anyone by his side.
If you are struggling to quit, please consider the long term consequences of alcohol abuse. Save yourself a life of heartbreak.
Blessings,
WF

Wildflower, thank you so much for sharing. I am so sorry about the heartbreaking way your uncle died.
It's very important to show people here what happens down the line when a person chooses to drink again as an alcoholic. Denial of the problem can and does lead to this. It's real.

As the sib of a long time alcohol addict, I agree that it is indeed a waste of life and so very, very sad.
My sib is sick, too.
I was at my mother’s house today, and he was lying down, something he is doing more and more frequently.

Thank you all for the warm wishes. I am truly blessed to have found my sobriety and the support of this site. The death of my uncle may be a reminder for some, and a wake up call for others, of the devastating effects of alcohol.
My hope is that by posting about my uncles heartbreaking end, someone will be touched to their very core. Maybe his death won't be in vain. I hope someone will read this post and choose life. A beautiful, full sober life.

No one and nothing is trash!
I'm always left with mixed feelings on hearing news like this, sad for the loss of potential never achieved in someone who was probably a good, decent man bar for the insidious nature of alcohol.
Glad for those left behind who hopefully will in his passing recognise the potential in themselves and go on to develop it to achieve their dreams and aspirations in a manner worthy of the deceased.

My BIL is a prison RN. He has an abundance of compassion. I am hoping your dear uncle had someone by his side like my BIL to hold his hand and assure him it was okay to let go. Most RN's have gone into their line of work to make a difference. I hope you find comfort in your grief knowing that there is probably no alcohol in heaven but a place where his soul can now soar with the eagles. Peace be with you.
