Bladder pain from drinking

I’m only 22. I drank heavily for a year and a half straight. Always drinking liquor threw out the entire day every day from waking up to going to bed and overdoing it every night and pushing my limit every night as well so about 10 + shots a day at minimum. I’m sober now since April 5th. But since I’ve quit and about two months before that I came across bladder pain which because severe. Almost like pressure on my bladder and it gets better when I urinate, but only for a few minutes. Smoking cigarettes and my car standing idle with me inside seem to increase the bladder full feeling which has changed and became very painful to live with. I’m always irritated and can’t relax my body to urinate when I need to. It ends up taking 10 maybe 15 minutes sometimes. I’ve seen a doctor who specializes in this and had the procedure with the camera tube in my urethra and he didn’t see anything. I don’t know what else to do to help myself. I appreciate any help what so ever and am brand new to this site as well.

Welcome to the site.

I think it takes a while to re-acclimate to how our bodies normally feel. I had all kinds of imaginary physical issues when I was newly sober.

It's good you went to a doctor and everything checked out. If you are still feeling like something is wrong you could always get a second opinion.

I think that’s the only option I have is going to another doctor besides waiting it out which doesn’t seem to be helping anymore. I just don’t know how I can go try to get a job if I I can’t relax enough to even go to the bathroom there

I had the same thing about 16 years or so ago. Specialist said I was just fine down there. Turns out it was a physical manifestation of anxiety. The symptom just turned out to be the sensation you are describing. I started on some meds for anxiety/depression and it went away on its own. I'm not saying that's what's going on with you. Just what happened to me.

It sounds like they have checked what they needed to check. Here's a weird thing, I've noticed that when I focus intensely on one part of my body it seems to cause and anxious ocd imagined pathology...for example, breathing, or swallowing. I've imagined a lump in my throat when swallowing that literally wasn't there when the anxiety went away. I've caused panic attacks in myself when I felt like I couldn't breathe, but I was breathing fine, it's just that the anxiety made me hyperventilate, which made me more anxious....etc.

If they have put a camera up there and it's all good, then I wouldn't worry. You're too young for bph, bladder cancer only really happens in the elderly, neurogenic bladder issues also just very very rare at your age. maybe drinking too much coffee? energy drinks? Caffeine soda? Smoking? Take a look at the stimulants you might be taking in.

Also, thought I would add....

Stay off Doctor Google, if you've been doing that. Early sobriety is a super anxious time and Doc Google will have you dying over any little thing.

Like everyone is saying, health anxiety is a real thing, but it's a trick of the mind. Try to distract, get some exercise, don't dwell on things...you may find it goes away before you get that second opinion.

I think anxiety may play a large roll in this and I live with way too much anxiety and depression day to day. I just don’t prefer anxiety/depression pills because of the way they make you feel. Stress affects this as well and I do smoke a lot of cigarettes and have a ecig but that’s been that way for 6 years now so I don’t think that could be the entire problem. Is there any thing besides those Sri pills for anxiety
And thank you very much eveveryone on here
Much appreciated

I agree with some of the other posts. Anxiety was the culprit for me. I'm on day 43 and anxiety/depression are now rare(thankfully).

I need a way to relive my anxiety that’s a positive outlet. It’s just so subconscious to the point where I can tell my anxiety is there but it’s so normal and I’m just equipped to get threw it without alarming myself in most situations

Try vigorous exercise, eating regular meals with protein each time, and staying hydrated.

Sometimes people need meds, other times self care can do the trick.

I’ll start going on walks. I think that could help thank you. I always have a hard time finding a hobby that interests me when it comes to filling my time with things that keep me busy
