15 days sober

I’m 15 days sober and I still feel terrible it’s even worse today, I’ve woken up with what feels like the biggest hangover of my life. I’m so looking forward to these euforic feelings I keep reading about, but the way I feel today I might as well just open another bottle.

I had terrible "hangover" like headaches in early recovery. They passed.

You said yourself in you first post, you were a long-time heavy drinker. As great as fifteen days sober is, it's early in the grand scheme of things. As alcoholics, we want instant relief, and we want it NOW! Recovery doesn't work that way. It's not quick, but its lasting.

Hope you don't drink.

15 days is huge. You truly are going through the hardest part.

A lot of staying stopped is retraining my brain that I can actually make it through stress and discomfort without alcohol. I spent a lot of years teaching my brain that reflex response of drinking, its going to take time to reverse that. Recovery is a lot of things, but it most definitely has a behavioral conditioning component.

Headaches are super common. I stay hydrated, drink electrolyte replacement drinks (stuff like NUUN or a sports formula) eat super healthy, get some exercise. It will pass. Hang in there, you're doing great.

Hi Biglee - congratulations on 15 days. That's fantastic I had nasty headaches too for the first month and a half but they stopped of their own accord. The main thing is not to have "just the one to take the edge off". Wishing you well Yix x

Congrats on the 15 days sober! I never experienced any euphoric times either in my sobriety. For me, it was a gradual increase in quality of life. You may not feel the progression day to day, but after enough days it’ll have been worth it.

It takes time. For me about 4 months. So just don't drink and your health will improve. Congrats on 15 days. That's AWESOME!
