My guide to moderation
Maybe there was some confusion re: language, not sure if Zero is a native speaker. Unclear!

This guy gets it!!!!! Perfectly written..
A big thank you to everyone who commented here.
It was really helpful for me personally to go through this writing experiment - I wanted to be brutally honest with myself about what it would mean to keep drinking alcohol. Moderation, full blown drunk, whatever you might call it.
It means more so much to me to know this post might have given some people on SR any value in their sobriety. This site has been essential to my finally crossing the bridge to a fully sober life and I'm deeply honored to be able to give back in any way.

Moderation is a non starter. I am amazed at the number of posts that are a variation of: I had one beer, tried moderation, and now I'm back after a two year binge.
It's a harsh reality that moderation won't work. It amazes me that people play around with this stuff and even entertain thoughts of moderating because I genuinely think it's the difference between life and death.

Great post, less! made me laugh and tear up a bit at the same time, it is that relevant.
I love how you substituted the word "moderating" for drinking, because who "moderates" except those who need to quit? People cut back and it's a non issue, alcoholics "moderate."
it's amazing how similar all our experiences are. It helped to read all that. Really brought me back...and reminded me why I had to say, "never again."

I came back from the barbershop this morning. When I saw the posting before I left and hadn't read it, I was wondering, "what can this be?". Absolutely brilliant, required reading, IMO. Humorous, yet about very serious points. Thank you for taking the time to work it out for us.
Really great post Lessgravity
I’m so glad this has been bumped up I realise it was originally posted back when I was first trying to moderate in May 2018.
It’s a really great summary of why moderating will never work for me. Thanks so much

Thanks to everyone who mentioned this thread here and other places. As some of you know I am not an AA'er (although I have nothing but respect for those it has worked for) and one aspect of that sober path that I wish was a part of my life is the community it creates and fosters. I love SR and owe this place everything for getting me sober, but I often wish I had a local meeting with friends in person who I might get to know and travel this path with. That said, having been able to contribute something of value to those of us getting sober on SR means a whole lot to me. So thank you again anyone who has ever said a nice thing about my contribution and story here. You are all amazing and so is this place. And there's wood to chop.
