Steve's sub-zero weekend lock-down thread!

We are expecting -10* wind chill temps here in the northeast starting tomorrow (Friday) through Sunday. I'm not going anywhere, just stay at home, inside, and work at some projects. Hoping to hit the post office, library, the grocery store and Home Depot to stock up on weekend essentials after work today.

Little guy has a birthday party tomorrow night. Plan to spend Saturday and Sunday sorting garden/flower seeds. Also plan to order flower bulbs and some misc. seeds ordered. Gotta stay positive and think spring. Also scored a few new DVD's, plus I plan to re-watch a few others.

And you? Most of the US is being pounded with this artic blast. haven't seen something like this in years here in Pennsylvania.

Hi, Steve! You sound alot like me when it comes to gardening. All our plants are grown from seeds. We collect them after the season is over and grow them the following spring. It is a wonderful hobby! We have both flower gardens and herb/vegetable gardens. I am happiest when I am gardening! Your avatar is a lovely heiloom tomato!

It's freezing cold here in Tn.

I had planned to drive across the Smoky Mountains to attend a concert in Asheville, NC tomorrow night, but I have decided to take a pass on doing so.

It's just not worth the risk of getting out on the interstate during this kind of deep freeze.

It will be work, movies and books for me.

We've had windchills of -20 to -30F almost every day the past week and a half. The raw temp was -20 last week one morning. I'm not liking it one bit ;-) It's not uncommon here though, so it's business/school as usual for the most part.

Steve, Chloe and anyone else.
SR has a gardening thread that is inactive right now because, well, no one is gardening.
But I’m hopeful that it will get resurrected in spring.
Love to have you all join.
We post pictures, talk about what we are growing, etc.
I’m a plant ninja myself.
I go around to defunct businesses and rescue their plants.
I haven’t decided if it’s stealing or providing safe haven to hostas.
Anyway, hope to see you on the gardening thread.

As of Friday morning at 5am: 9* with a wind chill value of -5*. Got the bulk of my shopping done last evening, may need to grab a few items after work today.

Yeah, those seed and flower catalogs are gonna be my "garden porn" for the weekend! Stay warm, everyone!

We've been below zero quite a bit the past couple of weeks. Just have to be smart and stay inside as much as possible. This too shall pass!

Ah! Primanti's! The best! Yea, I love my hometown. I was actually in your city for a conference not long ago. We had a great time!

i had to run outside barefoot in it in the snow to break up my dogs from fighting friggen knuckle heads!

tommorrow i gotta go out in it tho drive 30 min each way kinda concerned about it but i'll dress warm and bring extra coats and such.

i dont really mind it but i do get worried having to go far in it. last weekened i tried to make this same appt and failed i got almost there and then the ice and snow got to slick i had to turn around and go home. The panic from that drive took the remainder of the day to calm down from. and i was worn out the rest of the weekend I think i just worked myself up over good.

That's kinda why I want it to be a no-stress weekend. We're celebrating out son's fourth birthday tonight and that's about the only real event we got going. I'll run for the mail tomorrow and that'll be it for me. Wife thinks she's gonna go shopping tomorrow afternoon.... we'll see how that pans out!

I had a chicken die a few days go she was old anyhow but it was sad to watch her spend her final days frigid! oh well thats life i guess.

I'm gonna still head to that appt tonight. I'm either brave or insane. I hope it goes well. last week it was pretty bad but that was snow and ice and i started spinning all over the ice. this week its just the cold i hope... but the cold could be bad too. i'm gonna wear 12321389213912 layers and bring my heavy duty snow boots just in case.

I am very wimpy and spoiled. One week in the 30s and I was unhappy.

I used to live in Lake Tahoe and that place is crazy! So much snow. What was I thinking? Western PA, too. Brr. That's where I was born, near Pittsburgh.

Be careful out there. Good to "see" you zjw.

Raw temp was -21F here this AM. not even sure what the wind chill was. Looks like a "warmup" coming tomorrow and we might even crack freezing on Monday!
