Day #5 and THRILLED

I know, I know....I'm still early. But, this is SO exciting. The only thing that is bumming me out is how much time I lost LIVING. Oh well. I didn't know I wasn't really living when still chained by alcohol. I wish someone had told me!

Congrats sohard, the first couple weeks are very difficult so every day is a big achievement. Try to think of what the possibilities are now vs things you cannot change. I don't think it's possible to just erase the past from memory, but dwelling on it doesn't fix anything. Try and focus on what you can do today - and you'll be surprise how much you will accomplish over time.

Nicely done sohard! Better to spend your energy being happy, proud, and thrilled over the fact that you gave up the booze when you did, rather than lament that you didn't do it sooner. Get your ass living now, you can make up for all of that lost time.

Not alone

I'm with you all the way, Sohard. Day five for me as well is just ending in South Africa. It's almost half past eight here, and the Liqueur stores are closed. Had one very iffy second today; those times when something inside you just says - what the hell, why not. Today I (and my liver), managed to send that little voice straight to hell. Proudly...
Let's hang in there together.
Have a great weekend all on this forum!

True. Even if I'd listened, I wouldn't have understood!

Thanks. I'm making myself feel a bit better by letting myself off the hook a bit. I mean, initially I was punishing myself. However, it's not like it's my fault I was delt this issue in life. What matters, however, is how I deal with it. I got 1/2 a lifetime left (hopefully) to enjoy. I've got to think this experience will make me a stronger, more empathetic person.
