Burned out brain cells

Last week I found a picture of my wife, kids and myself taken about 18-20 years ago.

In the picture I was wearing a wristwatch - I have no recollection of ever owning a watch. Other than my wedding ring I have no jewelry - it is not my thing.

I wonder what other events and things that are forever lost to my alcoholism.

To be fair...even non-drinkers forget watches they owned 18-20 years ago.

Don't beat yourself up. Memory isn't always a friend. :)

Don't worry about it Doug. Just move on and stay sober.

It's not necessarily related to your drinking.

My wife is a very smart lady who has never really drank.

I'm the alcoholic, but my memory of long ago events is usually way better than hers.

I had no recollection that the Seattle Seahawks won the Superbowl in 2014 following the 2013 season. I vaguely remember being excited about the game, but I literally only learned the Hawks won in 2016 when my g/f, now wife, told me.

Yep, memories come and go for certain, There's a lot of things I did that I'd rather not remember to be honest.

What kind of awesome memory can you create today :)

^^Love that, soberclover!

And...I agree that memory ebbs and flows- maybe some of the good stuff is forever lost because of my drinking; so is bad, as Scott said. I just consider it neutral to amusing now, if reminded of something happy. Thankfully, even my mom has backed off a whole bunch to any "negative reminders" ;)

Today matters the most!

Pretty much every movie made between 2007 and last year is entirely new to me, even if I have seen it before. I can't tell you how many times I've started watching something and my wife is like, "We saw this one already!" I'm always like, "Oh yeah ..." But I really have no clue.

Sort of disturbing but I can't focus on that ... we lived a long time in a haze, from now on and going forward we can enjoy building new memories and treasuring our experiences as we have them!
