A New High
So I just watched this doc on Netflix. I wish there were more recovery programs like this. Ideas that teach people about teamwork and fearlessness and courage and tenacity. Drugs and drinking can make a person's world get so small, I think programs that teach new skills and make people step out of their comfort zones and push them mentally and physically to give them a new sense of pride and accomplishment. It was a very inspiring film. I really liked the symbolism of going from the lowest low to the highest high of climbing a mountain. It really blows the conventional recovery programs out of the water and sets a new standard in my opinion. I would love to see approaches like this adopted in North America, more in line with Portugal where they stopped alienating addicts and punishing them and instead started educating them and giving them a reason to stay sober and feel good about themselves.
