I had quite a few times that one minute at a time was too long and had to go down to one second at a time. well worth doing that, too.

This is a favorite rationalization alcoholics use to pave the way for drinking. After all, if it's a hopeless lost cause, why not just go ahead and drink? It's hopeless, right?

Or you can not drink (if you're working a good plan).

I should mention that I tried this rationalization out myself a few times. It was great, truly effective, in that it was beautifully self-fulfilling. After a few drinks I could tell myself, "See? It really is a lost cause."

My all-time favorite rationalization for drinking, however, was, "I'll go ahead and drink now this one last time. Tomorrow I am stopping forever."

you what a real kick in the pants is? when i was in the hospital and the team of doctors that had finally stabilized me told my wife i was a chronic alcoholic and without a HUGE change, i was a hopeless case and would be dead within 6 months to a year.

I remember the look on her face and me just shaking my head. F that.

I remember thinking If it's within my power to pick up a drink, it's also within my power NOT to if i use the tools people are willing to give me...

Some days it sucked terribly...some days i punched walls in my garage until my knuckles bled...some days i just sat in my car and cried..

but it got better.

if i can do it so can you.

don't give in or up. one day one minute one second at a time...just don't give up.

You can do it, sending positive thoughts your way.

.
There are days when I still come home, park in the driveway, and sit in my car and cry.

Most recently during the last few days because last weekend we had to put our family dog to sleep after ten years.

Don't have to drink though.
